How it works
Physical and virtual
Solaris represents physical NICs, VLAN links, aggregations and VNICs as datalink objects.
VLANs
A VLAN link needs matching switch-side configuration.
Aggregation
Link aggregation requires compatible switch and host configurations; validate the chosen mode.
Worked examples
Each example explains the question it answers, a reproducible starting point, what to look for, and operational precautions.
1. List links
Use this as a starting point for list links.
dladm show-linkInterpretation: Check command output against the expected host configuration; record the before/after state.
Operational note: Run commands in a test environment first; confirm device names, privileges and release-specific options.
2. List physical NICs
Use this as a starting point for list physical nics.
dladm show-physInterpretation: Check command output against the expected host configuration; record the before/after state.
Operational note: Run commands in a test environment first; confirm device names, privileges and release-specific options.
3. Create VLAN
Use this as a starting point for create vlan.
dladm create-vlan -l net0 -v 120 vlan120Interpretation: Check command output against the expected host configuration; record the before/after state.
Operational note: Run commands in a test environment first; confirm device names, privileges and release-specific options.
4. Inspect VLANs
Use this as a starting point for inspect vlans.
dladm show-vlanInterpretation: Check command output against the expected host configuration; record the before/after state.
Operational note: Run commands in a test environment first; confirm device names, privileges and release-specific options.
5. Inspect aggregations
Use this as a starting point for inspect aggregations.
dladm show-aggrInterpretation: Check command output against the expected host configuration; record the before/after state.
Operational note: Run commands in a test environment first; confirm device names, privileges and release-specific options.
